A long and moody post with no Cut in sight.
Hello LJ, its been awhile since I've really used you to spew hate and disgust. Let me make it up to you.
The academic years of 2000-2004 = a complete waste of time and money.
I wasn't a stellar student, i didn't study enough and my grades didn't wow the pants off anyone. Girlfriend drama and Chi Phi didn't help my academic career either. Lets not get into CiD...
However I did go to all my classes, I did do all of my assignments, I did take my tests seriously and most importantly I am continuing to pay my multi-fucking-thousand dollar debts off. I graduated with my BA in Psychology and did what 50% of my fellow graduates did and went to work in retail (and of course the 9 days at Call Tech).
Here I am now, about to turn 27 and happy but aware that i need a career that will grow with me. I have no desire to continue the joke that is the psychology and attempting to do what i always knew i should have and go for a hard science.
I've had my eye on a few things for awhile, but after talking to some of the people in the field, evaluating the growth options, and associated info i've decided to become a Histologist. This is a lab monkey who preps slides for a Pathologist. Not glamorous by any account, but there is opportunity with a decent paycheck to hold you over until you're ready for more.
Two places in Ohio offer the programs to get you the Certification. Youngstown and Columbus State. So Columbus state it is.
I was so busy with all the other bullshit while at OSU I didn't really pay attention to all the admin stuff and paperwork going to school required (and i thank my mom for helping me [read: doing it all]) for me. I decided that wouldn't be the case and i'd be ontop of everything from the get go. Columbus State is a bitch. I can only assume they have three academic advisers. I apply; i get my transcripts transferred March 29th. i wait like 16 days for them to get reviewed, then i setup a meeting with the health adviser just like the lady on the phone said i should.
I did that april 15th. They have me set to talk to them MAY 15TH! Really? Are you guys that understaffed it takes an incoming student a fucking month to talk to one of your people who can tell me anything beyond "check the website" or "this is how you use the website"? No one could tell me “Hey, setup that meeting now before your transcripts are even approved because it takes forever to get into that office”?
Guess what? FAFSA deadline was April 17th. See ya later gov money! I wonder what other deadlines I’m going to miss. I’m trying to read up as much as possible on where I need to be but so much just ends in “refer to your adviser”.
Anyways, the real source of my bitchy mood is these fucking prereqs. The Histiology certification program is 3 quarters. I fully understand it is mainly composed of courses I’ve had no contact with ever, and I’m ok with the fact I have to complete the program as a whole. Of course this program has its’ own set of prereqs.
To be exact:
MULT 101: Medical Terminology
MATH 102: Beginning Algebra I
CHEM 113: Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry
BIO 261: Human Anatomy
Placement into ENGL 101 (You must demonstrate credit for ENGL 100 or your placement test results must show placement into ENGL 101.)
2.5 GPA
I’m not happy, I’m paying for these courses out of pocket and going to have to wrap them around my life and full time work. Still, they will have to be taken, gotta pay to play right? I assume math and English will be handled by my transfer credit from OSU. I know I will most likely have to take the others. I go to sched them and run into some other problems and finally get a general adviser on some website chat thing cscc has:
Me
I know at OSU O-chem and bio chem were very difficult. i'm still working full time and don't want to bite off more then i can chew and sched too many classes. What is the general feeling about Chem 113 at Columbus state?
CSCC Admissions
This class is the introductory class. Have you had Chem within the last 3 years and Bio within the last 5 years?
Me
No, i graduated in 2004
CSCC Admissions
Chem 100 or HS chem within the last 3 years is a pre-req.
CSCC Admissions
Write to the health advisors....hhps@cscc.edu for advice.....I think they will recommend taking Chem 100
CSCC Admissions
Due to pre-reqs you will not be eligible to register for Chem 113
Also, Bio 261 requires Bio 100
Even my fucking prereqs have prereqs and I can’t even absolve them because I graduated in 2004.
4 years of full time, full price, full stress glorious Ohio State University education all equal to dog shit on a napkin. I’m going to have to start over from the very bottom, only now working full time and living on my own.
I wish with all my heart, that I could go back in time to one of the many nights I was up at 4am working on term papers, running full sprint to get through the construction to get to my next class, or studying for German tests, or memorizing all that useless bullshit and that the me of today could just throw all of it to the ground and tell myself:
“FUCK IT, GO GET DRUNK AND HUMP A GIRL AND SLEEP IN BECAUSE NONE OF THIS IS WORTH A SINGLE SECOND OF YOUR LIFE. EVERY JOB YOU GET WILL BE BASED ON COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE YOU HAVE FROM PIRATING PORN AND PLAYING VIDEO GAMES. THIS IS A TOTAL WASTE OF THE AGES 19-22!”
Four years of THE Ohio State University and a BA degree and I can’t even waive a 100 level class at a community college.
I regret it all.
